XUTI COLLECTIVE
Xuti is a Tkaronto based collective that through a circular and communal model aims to fulfill the need of Mesoamerica diaspora to reclaim, reconnect, and reconcile with their Indigenous ancestral roots. We acknowledge the pain, destruction, genocide and oppression of our Indigenous ancestors caused by colonization and the ancestral trauma that lives within us, their descendants. We strive to build an interconnected and intergenerational community that promotes healing, knowledge exchange, and creative expression, that is grounded in our histories and ancestral lands.
Objective
Through a circular and communal model, we aim to fulfill the need of Mesoamerican diaspora to reclaim, reconnect, and reconcile with their Indigenous ancestral roots.
PURPOSE
To connect local community and diaspora to their ancestral roots, while helping to preserve endangered ancestral languages and cultural traditions.
To explore, acknowledge and help in reconciling with the impact of colonialism in our community. To help heal ancestral trauma, unpack and explore what it means to be of mixed ancestry. To learn about the history of oppression, racism, colorism in our communities and how this is still a challenge being faced today.
To provide a safe space where feelings of cultural displacement, loss, grief, not belonging, impact of immigration, assimilation, and living in white dominated and colonized spaces are explored and where a sense of belonging to a cultural community is affirmed.
Promote a circular community of knowledge exchange, where resources/employment are generated for all and where support to knowledge keepers/holder/elders is centred.
